Our services

Diagnostics, management, social freezing

Our fertility center in the heart of Hanover, right next to the opera, offers a wide range of pioneering procedures in fertility diagnostics and therapy.

Every fertility treatment starts with a personalized diagnostic workup to identify the best treatment modalities for you. The primary diagnostic workup includes a detailed medical history, laboratory studies, sperm quality analysis, and diagnostic imaging to identify possible fallopian tube disorders, if indicated.

Request

Impaired egg development and lack of ovulation, common causes of infertility despite regular sexual intercourse at the right time, can be treated by hormone therapy. Hormone stimulation is also employed when artificial IVF or ICSI inseminationis planned to harvest the required eggs. Ovarian stimulation can be delivered with tablets or self-administered injections.

Request

Insemination is a technique of artificial insemination that may be used when sperm motility is impaired. In this procedure, specially prepared sperm is transferred directly into the uterine cavity. Insemination may be performed during the natural cycle or following ovarian stimulation, depending on the results of the case in question.

Request

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) are two tried-and-tested modalities of artificial insemination. The required eggs are harvested after hormonal stimulation, and the sperm collected by masturbation or via testicular biopsy (TESE). In addition, cryopreserved sperm may also be utilized. After 2-5 days, the resulting embryos are transferred into the uterus.

Request

The reasons for freezing eggs and sperm ar many and varied. As part of fertility treatment, germ cells may be frozen (cryopreservation) to avoid the need for stimulation and harvesting for a future IVF or ICSI treatment cycle.

Moreover, cryopreservation is a time-tested procedure performed prior to treatment that may damage germ cells, in order to postpone the desire for children into the future. In the latter case, the statutory health insurance funds usually cover the cost. If germ cells are cryopreserved for social reasons (social freezing), the cost must be covered by the patients themselves.

Holistic treatment

@Adobe Stock / Prostock-studio

An unfulfilled desire to have children can put a great strain on a partnership and always implies the question: What is the cause? In general, it can be said that in around 30% of cases, the cause of infertility lies with the woman, 30% with the man and 30% with both. In the remaining 10 %, there is no clearly identifiable cause.
It is therefore important to have an interdisciplinary diagnosis in which doctors of reproductive medicine and gynaecological endocrinology work closely together with specialists in andrology and biologists. A holistic diagnosis and therapy is one of the success factors for the fulfilment of the desire to have children and is part of our daily practice.

Voices of patients and couples

At six locations in Germany, we work every day to fulfil people's desire to have children. Here, happy parents talk about their fertility treatment. Find out more here.

‘Our pregnancy was diagnosed two weeks after the first ICSI transfer in Bad Münder. We are totally happy, enjoying the pregnancy (with everything that goes with it...) and are really looking forward to our offspring...’

‘Our findings were initially a mystery - ‘idiopathic’ infertility, i.e. without any recognisable cause... and in the end our daughter was born eleven days after ET.’

‘Our little miracle is now almost 3 years old. We are currently (2024) back with Dr Kundu, because we don't want our son to remain an only child.’

‘Dr Mebes gave me great support throughout the whole time... I am glad that I dared to become a mother on my own not only once, but also a second time.’

Dr. Mebes hat mich während der ganzen Zeit sehr unterstützt... Ich bin froh, dass ich mich nicht nur einmal, sondern auch ein zweites Mal getraut habe, selbst Mutter zu werden.'

Frequently asked questions & answers about fertility treatment

When can you contact a fertility centre in Hanover?

As a general rule, you should contact a fertility clinic in Hanover / a fertility treatment clinic sooner rather than later if you are unable to get pregnant, as fertility decreases with age and also plays a role in the success of fertility treatment. Younger patients have a better chance of getting pregnant with medical support.

If you have not become pregnant after 12 months of regular, unprotected sexual intercourse during your fertile days, we recommend an initial consultation or a diagnostic test. Women over the age of 35 should seek medical advice after 6 months. If you would like to find out more about the female cycle and fertile days, you can find more information here.

How much does fertility treatment in Hanover cost?

The individual costs to be borne depend on many factors: the method of fertility treatment, the method of artificial insemination, the number of treatment cycles until pregnancy is achieved and whether the costs are covered by health insurance.

The costs of hormone treatment are generally fully covered by statutory health insurance. Subsidies of 50% are possible for the costs of artificial insemination. Unfortunately, there is still a big but, as the costs are currently only paid for married, heterosexual couples within defined age limits. In addition, all subsidies must be applied for prior to treatment. You can find out more about costs and cost coverage here.

How long does fertility treatment at the Hanover Fertility Centre take?

Fertility treatment with in vitro fertilisation or ICSI takes around 4-6 weeks at our fertility clinic. If special diagnostics are required or cost clarifications with the health insurance company are pending, this period may be longer. In any case, we will inform you about the specific procedures at the beginning of the treatment and give you a personalised treatment plan with appointments.

Does the fertility centre also treat single women and lesbian couples?

Yes, we treat same-sex couples who wish to have children, regardless of whether they are married, unmarried or in a registered civil partnership. We also treat single women. For fertility treatment, we cooperate with various sperm banks and provide detailed information about all the special features associated with donor sperm treatment. You can find more information on this topic here.

Can I still have fertility treatment when I am over 40?

Yes, this is generally possible. Due to the sharp decline in fertility at this age, fertility treatment should no longer be put on the back burner - and you should know that health insurance companies no longer contribute to the costs of fertility treatment. Nevertheless, our Kinderwunsch Hannover team will do everything possible to make your wish for a child of your own come true.
