Our range of services

Full range of diagnostics, artificial fertilization and social freezing

With our cutting edge diagnostic procedures and proven treatment modalities we support heterosexual couples and married lesbian couples on their way to becoming parents.

In Siegen, the first step on the road to parenthood is a personalized diagnostic workup. We diagnose the causes of your infertility through laboratory studies, cycle monitoring, hysteroscopy, chromosome analysis, and sperm quality analysis. The results provide the basis for a personalized treatment plan.

Request

A disrupted cycle is often the reason why pregnancy does not work out. Hormone therapy can correct the disruption and ensure that eggs are produced and ovulation is provoked. Treatment is carried out with tablets or injections. Ovarian stimulation is also required prior to egg retrieval for artificial fertilisation procedures outside the female body, e.g. IVF or ICSI.

Request

Intrauterine insemination increases the chances of pregnancy in cases of slightly impaired sperm quality. Treatment involves identifying the best sperm in the laboratory and then using a thin catheter to insert them directly into the uterine cavity. Depending on the findings, this may be preceded by ovarian stimulation at our Siegen fertility center. Lesbian couples receive donor sperm from a sperm bank.

Request

Fertilisation by in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) begins with ovarian stimulation. Mature eggs are then retrieved under short anaesthesia and combined with prepared sperm in the laboratory. During ICSI, a selected sperm is injected directly into the egg. A few days later, the embryo transfer takes place in our fertility centre.

Request

Cryopreservation is the process of storing eggs, sperm and tissue at extremely low temperatures, thus preserving their quality for many years. This may be useful if you would like to postpone parenthood until later (social freezing) or are undergoing medical treatment with the potential risk of fetal injury, such as chemotherapy and the administration of certain medications.

Request

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) can be used in the context of artificial fertilisation to carry out a genetic examination of the embryo before it is implanted in the uterus. This type of diagnosis is generally only recommended for couples with a predisposition to hereditary diseases or genetic changes. In order to increase the probability of pregnancy, additional add-ons such as blastocyst culture, EmbryoGlue® or calcium ionophore may be useful, depending on the individual findings.

Voices of patients and couples

At six locations in Germany, we work every day to fulfil people's desire to have children. Here, happy parents talk about their fertility treatment. Find out more here.

‘Our pregnancy was diagnosed two weeks after the first ICSI transfer in Bad Münder. We are totally happy, enjoying the pregnancy (with everything that goes with it...) and are really looking forward to our offspring...’

‘Our findings were initially a mystery - ‘idiopathic’ infertility, i.e. without any recognisable cause... and in the end our daughter was born eleven days after ET.’

‘Our little miracle is now almost 3 years old. We are currently (2024) back with Dr Kundu, because we don't want our son to remain an only child.’

‘Dr Mebes gave me great support throughout the whole time... I am glad that I dared to become a mother on my own not only once, but also a second time.’

‘We felt comfortable in the practice from start to finish. All the doctors and medical assistants were super kind, patient and empathetic.’

Frequently asked questions & answers about fertility treatment

When is the right time for fertility treatment?

If you are interested in fertility treatment, we recommend that you contact us if you have not become pregnant for 12 months despite having unprotected intercourse during the fertile days of your cycle. If you are already over 35 years old, we recommend contacting us after 6 months. Simply contact us without obligation and arrange a personal appointment. Our certified fertility centre in Siegen is available for you at any time and will be happy to answer all your questions about fertility, social freezing and artificial insemination. If you would first like to know more about the topic: ‘How do you actually get pregnant?’, you can find more information here.

What does treatment at the Siegen Fertility Centre cost?

Each of our fertility centres works with individual treatment plans. It is therefore not possible to give a generalised cost for a treatment. In general, insemination costs around €300. If ovarian stimulation is also planned, the costs amount to around €1,000. An IVF cycle costs around €3,000, with ICSI costing €4,000 per attempt.

Married heterosexual couples have the option of applying to their statutory health insurance provider for 50% of the costs to be covered. Some health insurance companies even cover an even higher proportion of the costs or additional services. However, some conditions must be met for this. We will be happy to explain all the details on this topic to you in a detailed consultation. You can find lots of information about costs and cost coverage here in advance.

How long does the treatment at the Siegen Fertility Centre take?

The duration of treatment cannot be quantified in general terms, as the individual requirements, the choice of treatment method and many other factors play a role. On average, an IVF or ICSI treatment cycle takes around 4 to 6 weeks. However, there can always be deviations - for example due to cost clarification with the health insurance company or due to extensive diagnostic measures.
At all of our amedes fertility centres in North Rhine-Westphalia (Dortmund, Wuppertal and Siegen Fertility Centres), you will always receive an individual treatment plan that not only lists the individual steps of the treatment, but also the timeline. If pregnancy does not occur during the first cycle, the procedure can be repeated.

Who can contact the fertility clinic in Siegen?

The amedes Fertility Centre in Siegen supports childless heterosexual and lesbian married couples in becoming pregnant. For legal reasons, a registered partnership is not sufficient for lesbian couples. We will be happy to advise you in detail about this fertility treatment procedure..

Is over 40 already too old for fertility treatment?

Successful treatment at our fertility centre in Siegen is also possible over the age of 40 - however, the chances decrease with increasing age, as fertility in women is already significantly reduced from the age of 30. You should therefore not wait any longer than absolutely necessary to fulfil your desire to have children. It is therefore best to contact us today. We will give you detailed and personalised advice on your options.
